Barton Estate History

Listed in the Domesday Book in 1086 as held by King Edward of Bolla

Augustinian Monastery from 1282, known as Barton Priory, home for eight monks

Disbanded in 1430 and given by the Bishop of Winchester to Winchester College

Tenant farm until 1845 when Queen Victoria bought it as an adjunct to Osborne House

Retained by Edward VII after Victoria's death, and gardens developed.
